Blue Lake Rancheria’s Resiliency Training & Innovation Center (RTIC) recently hosted an Incident Command System (ICS) 400 course.
ICS 400 or Advanced Incident Command for Command and General Staffs class is the highest level of training across the whole ICS organization. Further training is available for specific roles, such as Operations, Logistics, Planning, Finance & Administration, Public Information Officers, and others. The course hosted at Blue Lake Rancheria used curriculum from FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency).
The Course was directed by Larry Masterman in coordination with Blue Lake Rancheria’s Police Chief Kevin Miller.
“We graduated 18 new leaders for emergencies, complex incidents, and disasters of every kind. We had a very enjoyable mix of students, including agencies such as the National Weather Service, National Park Service, County Sheriff’s Office, CalFire, a neighboring fire chief, North Coast EMS agency, and College of the Redwoods. BLR and the Trinidad Rancheria had 7 leaders attending from OES, police, security, and administration.” – Larry Masterman
“The advance course we just delivered caps off Introductory, Basic, and Intermediate Incident Command courses. By the time students complete all of them, they’ve had a great deal of classroom training, group activities, and tabletop exercises. I applaud Anita and BLR’s Tribal leadership for their commitment to training your own leaders and sharing the wealth with other Tribes and local jurisdictions around you.”
The Blue Lake Rancheria Tribe’s Office of Emergency Services received a grant from the Department of Transportation Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration to fund the training.
