Teen CERT Training

Blue Lake Rancheria’s Office of Emergency Services has partnered with 𝗔𝗿𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗛𝗶𝗴𝗵 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 to deliver 𝗧𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗖𝗘𝗥𝗧 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴, using a customized 6-week program designed to equip students with essential disaster preparedness and emergency response skills.

During this week’s session, students learned about the Incident Command System (ICS) – with LEGO Blocks! Participants demonstrated how professional responders collaborate as a team during emergencies. Students filled the roles of Incident Commander, Operations, Planning, and Logistics. Together they were able to practice leadership skills, delegation, and communication. Working as a team they were able to make a plan, strategize, and accomplish the mission – in this case, building a LEGO fire truck – while working through issues such as being separated by distance, lack of resources, and navigating uncertainty.

Blue Lake Rancheria’s Teen CERT program empowers young leaders to think fast, work together, and stay prepared for emergencies. This summer, we’re excited to offer a Youth CERT Camp, giving local kids the chance to learn hands-on emergency response skills tailored for Northern California. Stay tuned for more details!
